Goals and Systems

I read a great blog this week on Goals and Systems and would like to share it and my thoughts on it. Original Inspiration is posted below.

Goals are exciting, they represent where we would like to be in the future. They usually represent a positive change in our lives or business, or an obstacle that has been overcome.

The thing is though without a system to achieve that goal, it becomes very difficult. Systems allow us to take a goal and break it down into smaller more achievable steps.

A basic goal such as running 5kms is not something you just attempt and achieve, you look online for a program, or app that will allow you to step up slowly to that distance. That app or program provides you with the system or process.

It is the same with any other goal that you set out to achieve. Without a realistic system of how you are going to set out to achieve that goal it is unlikely to ever come to fruition.

If we apply this to business, quite often we know where we would like our business to get to, or what issue we want to overcome, but how often do we put as much effort into the systems or processes that will allow those goals to happen.

So, next time you are writing out your list of goals, don't just think about what it is you want to achieve, but how exactly you are going to get there, what systems and processes will help you achieve that goal and what milestones you will reach along the way.
